The Women PeaceMakers Program is an annual selective program that allows four women on the frontlines of efforts to end violence and secure human rights to have their stories documented. High School Summer Internships

Institute to be Represented at International Conference
Karla Alvarez, WorldLink Program Coordinator, has been selected as a youth delegate for the CIVICUS Youth and World Assemblies in Glasgow, Scotland, June 16-21. The assemblies are a forum for international civil society representatives to exchange ideas and build strategies for a just world. Alvarez was selected as one of 200 "young women and men who are really making changes to things that matter" for her work with the WorldLink program.

Woman PeaceMaker Nominated for Front Line Award
2007 IPJ Woman PeaceMaker Latifah Anum Siregar of Indonesia was one of five individuals nominated for the annual Front Line Award by the International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders. The award honors the work of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the protection of human rights in the face of considerable personal risk. Please be advised that we have been notified of a fraudulent email campaign sent worldwide involving an alleged "Joan B. Kroc Foundation." We have been informed by the personal representatives of Mrs. Kroc's estate that the Joan B. Kroc Foundation does not exist, and that these messages are a scam, a hoax and a fraud. It is suggested that you do not respond to such fraudulent emails and that you ignore the correspondence.

Tuesday, June 17, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.: IPJ Special Event: "Women's Rights Are Human Rights." A panel of speakers from Africa, Asia, Latin America and North America will address their countries’ policies on human rights and justice for women. The presentations will be interspersed with dramatic readings by San Diego actors. The following speakers are confirmed: Le Ly Hayslip, who grew up during the Vietnam War, author of When Heaven and Earth Changed Places and Child of War, Woman of Peace. Both of these books were combined into the film, Heaven and Earth, directed by Oliver Stone. Gloria Oyola is actively involved in creating social justice. She is a Board member of Friends for Peace in Africa and of Activist San Diego. Gloria's activism also involves working with the Campaign to End Genocide in Uganda. This event is co-sponsored by Voices of Women. There is no charge for the event. However, Voices of Women will accept funds for their project in Afghanistan and organizations associated with the speakers.
